The course seeks to enable staff to begin to recognise psychological disorders (i.e. be alerted to the possible presence of a psychotic illness or of some other form of mental health problem) and to demystify mental illness and mental disorder. This short course has been specifically designed to meet the needs of those staff whose day-to-day work either brings them (or is likely to bring them) into contact with people who are experiencing some form of mental illness. The programme will include: Mental Illness in context --- Mental Illness --- Its forms --- Symptoms --- Possible effects on behaviour --- Treatment (This section of the programme will be supported by the use of short video case studies designed to illustrate some of the issues) --- The effects for, and reactions to, a mental illness by relatives and ‘informal carers’ --- The structure of modern mental health services – ‘Who’s who and what do they do?’ --- A brief overview of the 1983 Mental Health Act and its implications --- PLEASE CONTACT US FOR FURTHER INFORMATION
